the day the world woke up before my eyes

My photos do injustice, but i am no professional. The intention was to camp at the east cape along the camping grounds and wake up to the gorgeous sunrise, etc etc... but it started to drizzle when we arrived at the camp site and decided to spend $25 in a nice warm hostel.

We drove back up towards the town and into a huge house which was one of the nicer backpackers i've ever stayed in in NZ. It's the only one there and the lady there is really nice. We told her our plans to see the sunrise and she recommended us to drive off at 4:30AM latest to catch the sunrise. (i'm pretty sure she's well verse with the timings of the sunrise having people come and go all wanting to do the exact same thing)

We were the only ones in the hostel and i had an ENTIRE ROOM to myself. There's about 5 different rooms in the house and you can pick and choose which one you want and they all cost the same! :D

so bright and early, we drove towards the sun and got there a little earlier than he. Slowly he started to rise and day break was happening before our eyes. I'm sure some of you have seen a sun rise in your lifetime but being the first in the world is surely something special isn't it?

The clouds were a little cloudy that day and so it's not like we saw a huge ball rising from the sea. Instead we caught a glimpse of him now and again as he peeked through the clouds.

It was good enough for me.
